We were so sorry to learn of the death of Dr. James L. Sanderson, father of our member, Dr. James L. Sanderson, Jr. The elder Dr. Sanderson was a graduate of the first class of the University of Alabama School of Dentistry and provided cosmetic dentistry to needy people looking for jobs. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Southern Heritage on 119. Visitation will precede it from 12:30 until 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the J.L. Sanderson Fund, UAB School of Dentistry, Office of Development, SDB 214, 1530 3rd Ave. So., Birmingham, AL 35294. * * * Dr. Seymour Hoffman, oral pathologist and former dental school faculty member, died January 13 and was buried at the National Cemetery in Montevallo January 17. The family requests that any memorials be sent to The Birmingham Museum of Art where Dr. Hoffman was a docent and had established a program for the blind. * * * Dr. Christopher Shane Phillips who practiced at Warrior Family Dentistry passed away Jan. 9 and the funeral was Jan. 13 at New Horizons Cemetery in Dora. Dr. Phillips graduated magna cum laude from the University of Alabama, 1998, then from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in 2001. He resided in Sumiton. Our sympathy goes to the family and his fellow practitioners. * * * Our next meeting will be February 1 at The Summit Club with Dr. Keith Kinderknecht of the dental school faculty speaking on "TMD -- A Practical Screening Process." Dinner will be served at 6:15 p.m. * * * Dr. Angel Rohner, Give Kids A Smile chairman, is seeking volunteers who will see children in their offices in February. All programs put on by BDDS are approved for Fellowship/Mastership credit. * * * Our next Dentist of the Year will be named at the May 3 meeting at The Summit Club. * * * Sincere sympathy goes to Dr. Bill Lawson who recently lost his wife Ann and to Dr. Anthony J. Tortomasi of Sumiton who lost his father Joseph John Tortomasi. * * *
Congratulations to the winning team at the Golf Scramble July 16. In first Place were Drs. Victor Kyatt, Matthew Litz, Guy Rosenstiel and Red Stevens. In second place with a score of 59 were Drs. Mark Todd, Chris Jebeles, Chris McCallum and Billy Foxworth. Third place went to Drs. Harold Wehby, John Orr, III and Greg Teaford. Thanks to Dr. Todd, Dr. Kyatt and Rebecca Kyatt for all their preliminary work at the planning stage.
