M-POWER stands for Mission to Provide Opportunities With Empowering Results. It was first formed int he Avondale and Woodlawn area to provide programs and support to break the chain of poverty that is so prevalent in the area. The medical and dental clinics are a natural extension of this effort.
Since dental infection and pain are a major cause of sickness among poor people, M-POWER decided to focus on dental extractions. Long-term plans are to offer other services, but many people simply want and need their teeth removed. As you know, dental infection can become systemic.
Mostly we work on Thursday evenings, but other times can be made available. If you are interested in helping people in a volunteer friendly atmosphere where your work is organized and facilitated, and the patients are screened, please let me know. This is a most rewarding program!!
